Biography
Born Shamir Polanco, May 10 1989, Bronx, New York City, New York, USA.
Bringing that rugged and gritty urban sound of New York City to his music with a fresh-new style. He is setting himself to stand alone believing in versatility but also in being a trend-setter
“I don’t want to be the guy that sounds like the other guy, I want to be the Artist who sets the trend, not follows it” This mentality shows what his music represents originality and attitude a guy who wants to do it his way. His music is raw and real and sometimes ugly in other words life. His music tells his story but also things that a lot of us can relate too or have even experienced. SlliQ started to rap at the age of 13 as a way to escape the struggles of a young Hispanic kid who felt lost after losing his father due to brain cancer. At first just a hobby but after a year or two it became a passion, a way to express himself. After hooking up with Mix he started making music, by the age of 15 he was a regular in the studio with his best friend Maze, and together along with Kasper and Bronx Tale they formed Knuckle Game Entertainment. “Dream Team” was their introductory track with hardcore attitude and street mentality this set the standard for the type of music he will bring. In 2006 they recorded their first mixtape “ The Dough Equals Equity” with tracks like” Legacy”, “Ur not Me”, “Decisionz”, and “Dear Dad” a song written in letter form to his late Father SlliQ show’s his diversity and talent. He speaks on emotions and lessons learned the hard way, music became his life. “No sugar codes, no beating around the bush. I’m going to speak it how I felt it at the moment, and that’s my attitude in life”. SlliQ’s personal influences include his Grandmother, Father, Mother, and his little brother who have shaped the person he is today. Musically his influences include the late Notorious BIG, The Lox, Jay-Z, Eminem, Fabolous, Ludacris, DMX, Nas and Snoop Dogg. Definitely a rich hip-hop background, but SlliQ is not focused on making music for Hip-Hop listeners only. He wants his listeners to be able to relate or understand where he comes from and where he is trying to go no matter where you’re from. “We don’t have to be the same for you to feel me”. SlliQ is now working on his new project his first solo mix tape “The ‘Shnow’ Tape”. The mixtape has a lot of flavor, swag, raw, and street sound to it with tracks like “Creep”, “Biggest Fan” and “Joey Montana Freestyle” this is definitely one for the ages and a new sound that would certainly keep your ears glue to the speakers.
